Hello and welcome to Oakmont School

I hope that by visiting the school’s website you will get an understanding of what we do at our small, welcoming and friendly school right here in Cardiff Bay.

Oakmont School is proud to be a warm and supportive place that helps children to discover or to regain their confidence in learning.

Being in Cardiff does not mean that we can only support children from the same local authority. In fact, our current pupils are from a range of local authorities. Likewise, a child can start at Oakmont School anytime throughout the academic year.

Our classes are small with no more than six pupils in each, and each classroom has a teacher and two LSAs, ensuring that classes are calm, and learners are given support and attention where it is needed. The school's curriculum follows the National Curriculum for Wales and to support this, our pupils enjoy a range of activities and subjects that aim to develop the child alongside their learning.

Every pupil is incredibly important to us and we treat everyone in the Oakmont School community fairly, with respect and with kindness, while encouraging children to reach their full potential.

A positive and successful school life is known to benefit children in so many ways. It provides children with routine and consistency and with new and lasting friendships.

Attendance in school is known to increase a child’s self-esteem, social skills, confidence and self-worth, and it equips them with a wide range of academic and social skills with which to progress as they move towards adulthood and the world of further education or work.

A good education teaches children what is it to have a positive role both in and outside of school, as well as a socially fulfilling life. It provides the foundations necessary for success in later life. As well as educating our pupils we place a great deal of importance on their health and wellbeing and every day I aim to make Oakmont School a place where children want to be.
